CES 2009 Show Report
ARCAM demonstrated a host of state-of-the-art Home Theater technologies. In addition to the long-awaited AVR600 receiver (Shipping this month!), the new AV888 Processor and P777 7 x 185 wpc Power Amp (replacements for the AV9 and P7, respectively) were displayed and a prototype of ARCAM’s upcoming BluRay player--the first and ONLY BluRay player entirely designed and manufactured by a specialty audio company—was producing fantastic sound and image quality! Finally, the new MZ8 and MZ12 multichannel amplifiers bring ARCAM sound quality to the custom install market.

Cary Audio demonstrated their Cinema 11A processor (now shipping) with an assortment of their high-powered HT amps and the soon-to-be-released Cinema 11V video processor. The new “Xciter” Integrated Stereo Amplifier and matching Xciter 192 kHz/32 BIT DAC, with their attractive cosmetics and compact chassis, generated tremendous enthusiasm.

dCS showed their new uClock, a $4999 master clock. Designed as a lower-priced alternative to dCS’ other master clocks (perfect for use with the Puccini all-in-one player), the uClock also includes a USB interface, enabling computer/iTunes users to enjoy the full benefits of dCS performance. For WScarlatti system owners, a new Scarlatti Sample Rate converter ($12,999) also features a USB input.

Anthony Gallo Acoustics showed the new Strada System, a versatile series of stand-, shelf- or wall-mounted speakers utilizing Gallo’s patented CDT tweeter technology. Available in both horizontal- and vertically-oriented versions, these speakers pack Gallo’s top technology into a compact, affordable and flexible package. A new version of Gallo’s legendary Reference 3 tower loudspeaker was equally impressive. Expect all of these products to ship shortly!

NAD showed an entirely new lineup of exciting two-channel and home theater components. From the remarkable 725BEE Stereo Recevier ($799), 545BEE and 565BEE CD Players ($499 and $799, respectively) to the VISO TWO ($1299) and VISO FIVE ($1799) DVD Receivers to the “Future-Proof” MDC Series of Home Theater Receivers, NAD is quickly becoming THE CHOICE for Specialty Audio dealers!

Nordost was demonstrating why it’s flagship ODIN cable is the best in the world. In Nordost’s own rooms—as well as those of many other manufacturers—ODIN, new Valhalla Tone Arm cable and Quantum Power Products were making beautiful music!

Straight Wire added a BNC “Push Prong” connector to their Silver Series of field-terminatable Custom Install cable. This addition makes the Silver Series the most versatile CI cable system as well as the best-performing.

Totem showed the new “Wind Studio”, a $12K version of this flagship system. Available in gorgeous Red or Blue lacquer and boasting a bunch of sonic enhancements, this new speaker embodies Totem’s philosophy of super sound and stunning aesthetics. The new Tribe in-wall and in-ceiling series were an absolute smash-hit. Finally, all totem Monitor and Tower speakers are now available in a fashionable matte white finish.


Wadia announced a power amplifier and DAC to match their best-selling 170 iTransport. Sharing the same form factor as the world’s ONLY iPod transport with Digital Output, the new components make it possible to build a true high end iPod system with a minimum of size and price. Also on display was a new state-of-the-art transport and dual-mono DAC, USB-capable DAC and a new entry-level CD Player. Signal Path announced the upcoming Decco II from its Peachtree Audio Brand. Installed in a $100K system, the Decco II, with its all new DAC and Power amplifier sections, made a strong argument for EVERY music lover to own a Decco! The fantastic ERA line of loudspeakers, really gaining momentum and dealers here in NY Metro, demonstrated how high style, super sound and bargain pricing can coexist


Sim Audio showed its entire product line. Although every product is a winner, of particular interest were the new “0.5” Integrated Amplifier and CD Player: at $1,200 apiece, they bring true high end to a new and widely affordable price point. They’ll also make it possible to hook young audiophiles and make them customers for life. Additionally, special merit goes to the 3.3 Integrated, a fully Dual Mono integrated that can be outfitted with Balanced inputs, a 24-Bit/352,8kHz DAC and/or a high quality phono preamp. Prices start at $3,300 for a basic integrated and rise to $4K for a “Fully Loaded” unit.
